ENGINEERING / BEFORE DESIGN BEGINS

Pre-design servicesClarity comes first.

Build a sound foundation for your power line project: from baseline data and connection requirements to technical options and investment assessment.

The service at a glance

Pre-design work helps define the requirements for a future line, review available information and agree the next scope of work. LEP Expert prepares the basis for new developments and upgrades to existing networks. The scope is tailored to your project.

01 / SCOPE OF WORK

A good design starts
with the right questions.

Where can the site connect? What information is available? Which options need comparing? We address these questions before detailed design begins.

01

Design brief

Define the purpose of the facility, line requirements, scope boundaries and expected outcomes. Clarify the initial parameters with the client.

Your deliverable

An agreed brief that gives all project participants a common reference.

02

Connection requirements

Help prepare the necessary information and support the process of obtaining technical connection conditions. Issuance and review times depend on the network operator.

Your deliverable

Connection requirements and a clear view of the next actions.

03

Baseline information

Organise information about the facility, loads, site, existing networks and available documents. Identify gaps in the data.

Your deliverable

A register of baseline materials and a list of missing information.

04

External power supply scheme

Explore how the facility connects to the external network and consider technical options using the available information.

Your deliverable

A scheme and initial decisions for further development.

05

Investment assessment

Compare options by scope, constraints and indicative expenditure. Agree the depth of assessment around the client’s decision.

Your deliverable

Materials to support option selection and budget planning.

Commission the full stage or individual tasks. The agreed deliverables are recorded in the proposal and contract.

02 / WHEN TO START

A new site. More capacity.
Different conditions.

01

New development

Plan power supply for an industrial facility, residential development or agricultural site.

02

Network upgrades

Address changing loads, line relocation or the development of existing infrastructure.

03

Investment planning

Compare options, clarify the design scope and prepare to select a contractor.

03 / GETTING STARTED

You don’t need
all the answers yet.

We start with what you already know. We review the available materials and explain what information will be needed next.

  • 01Site location and intended use
  • 02Required power and target schedule
  • 03Existing connection conditions, plans and network drawings
  • 04Site constraints and preferred solutions

Missing some information? We will discuss how to obtain it.

04 / OUR PROCESS

From the first conversation
to a basis for design.

  1. 01

    Understand the task

Discuss the facility, objectives and available baseline materials.

  2. 02

    Agree the scope

Confirm deliverables, cost, schedule and the expected outcome.

  3. 03

    Develop the options

Collect data, prepare materials and discuss technical alternatives.

  4. 04

    Hand over the foundation

Deliver the agreed package and define the next steps.

Cost follows the scope,
not just the distance.

The pre-design scope depends on data completeness, connection options, site constraints and required deliverables. We prepare a proposal after reviewing your project.

Conditions

Design conditions

These parameters affect the scope and cost of design work.

Which category applies?

Category I: flat terrain, ravines, swamps up to 2 m deep; undeveloped urban, industrial and settlement areas.

Category II: mountainous terrain with slopes above 0.1; swamps deeper than 2 m, loose sands; developed urban, industrial and settlement areas.

05 / QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

What to know
before you begin.

How is pre-design different from detailed design?

This stage clarifies the brief, baseline data and main technical decisions. Detailed design and working documentation are developed at later stages within the agreed scope.

Can we start without connection conditions?

Yes. We can start by discussing the site and reviewing baseline information. The need for connection conditions and the application process depend on the connection task.

How much do pre-design services cost?

There is no universal rate. Cost depends on the deliverables, available data and complexity. The calculator on this page is for design work.

How long does preparation take?

We agree the schedule after reviewing the baseline data. Time needed to obtain materials or decisions from other organisations is considered separately.

Can I commission only a brief or a scheme?

Yes. We can agree an individual task, the required inputs and the format of the deliverable. You do not have to commission the full package.

Do you work with existing lines?

Yes, pre-design preparation also supports reconstruction. We will need information about the existing network and planned changes.

Is a site visit required?

It depends on the task and the quality of the available materials. The initial discussion can be remote; inspections or surveys are agreed separately.
